Exercise Bike Workout

An exercise bike workout can be more that just hopping on a bike and pedaling away. Now that isn't all bad. Any time you spend on your bike is of some benefit. But you can do a quick routine that will benefit you as much or more than pedaling at a slow pace for hours.

Don't underestimate the value of an exercise bike. You can use all kinds of exercise machines, many with electronics and gadgets. It's hard to beat a good exercise bike for a solid workout machine. If you want to burn fat and do a cardiovascular workout the exercise bike is a great tool.
A big plus of an exercise bike workout is that it not only works your heart and lungs but also your muscles. Working the major muscles of the legs is a great way to increase strength and boost your metabolism . Boosting your metabolism is the real key to long-term fat loss.

OK, for an aerobic workout shoot to increase your heart rate to about 70 percent of your maximum if you're more experienced. You may need to work up to that level. Then maintain that level of activity for at least 15 minutes. You can calculate your maximum heart rate. It's about 220 minus your age.

You can alter the resistance of your bike to target just the level you need to stay right in your training zone. And even if your exercise bike is a major part of your exercise program, you can blend in all other forms of exercise. Speed walk, jog, hike, row...any aerobic exercise that works for you is the thing to do. And by all means mix it up. Do all kinds of different exercises and you're less likely to get bored. Boredom is a killer of exercise programs. Get bored and you likely will quit. Quit exercise and you can make no progress.

Put some variety into your exercise bike workout. What about mixing in some dumbbell moves. Maybe you can't do this at a gym, you'll lose your machine, but you can at home. Ride a while then do some lifts, then back to the bike. The time you spend lifting, your heart rate will still be elevated and it will be almost as if you didn't stop. Your aerobic workout will be improved and your weight training workout will be too.

Also you can mix up the exercise bike ride by varying the pace or load. If your bike has programmable load variations, use those features. Throw in a simulated hill every few minutes. If you don't have programmable load variation, vary the pace of pedaling. Ride fast for a few minutes, then slow, then medium. Write down the exercise routine you will do. How many minutes slow warm-up then how many medium effort, how many fast and so on. Gradually build the pace up then back down, then up and back down. Make it challenging but stay within the heart rate range you choose. By varying the pace of your pedaling, you can get a great workout in only about 20 minutes.

A twenty minute workout is about the minimum time to get into the fat burning mode. With twenty minutes you can warm up for about 4 minutes, then go hard for twelve minutes and ease back on the pace for four minutes.

An exercise bike workout can improve your fitness, help you lose fat and just generally make you feel better.

Exercise Bikes - Why Should You Get One?

Fitness is the key to optimal health and an exercise bike can help you to achieve just that. But, why an exercise bike? Why not go for something else? There are many reasons why you should purchase a bike and use it. If you plan to use it for a clothing hanger, don’t bother. But, if you are ready to improve your overall health, then you should consider the purchase of an exercise bike.

Here are some reasons why you need a bike:

Are you seriously overweight? Those that are more than 25 pounds overweight often have trouble losing that weight no matter what they try. The catch 22 is that you need exercise to lose the weight but you barely can make it from the bedroom to the living room without becoming tired. How can you possibly do a routine that will allow you to lose weight? An exercise bike is the perfect solution because it allows you to work at your own pace. It allows you to start off slowly and build up in speed gradually without overexerting yourself.

Heart problems? Many doctors that have patients with cardiac conditions will tell them they need to lose weight. But, stressing out the heart is a huge problem for them. The benefit here is that the body gets a workout and the cardio workout obtained is significant but light enough for many heart patients. Simple. It’s the right combination for those with a heart condition. Of course, as with all other fitness equipment, you should consider talking to your doctor before starting any exercise program.

You won’t go broke- Most people can afford a decent bike. That’s because you don’t have to purchase the most expensive to get the benefits of exercise. A simple stationary bike can be a great way to start off.

Do you get bored? Okay, the problem with many exercise routines is that they are boring or too hard. But, with an exercise bike this is anything but true. If you find yourself becoming bored, move the bike in front of the TV. Turn on your favorite football game and you’ll never realize you did three miles while the team has the ball. You get your mind working and your body too.

Easy to do- Many people find that things that are too hard are things they just find excuses not to do. With an exercise bike, you have less of a chance of this because you can do it. Results happen each time you get on and you’ll see yourself building muscles that burn fat and you’ll see the inches coming off. It’s that easy.

Exercise Bikes and Safety

Exercise bikes increase safety in three different areas. First, riding a stationary bike at home instead of taking a bike outside can be safer in areas with no bike lanes or trails, cold weather, or unchained dogs. Second, a good warm-up on your exercise bike will decrease the risk of injury or muscle sprains when you do weight lifting or other high-impact activity. Third, an exercise bike can be safer for you to use than other home exercise machines.

Most people might prefer to take their bikes through their neighborhood, a good park, or on a scenic road, but that is not always possible. Weather can often get in the way, and a person who is new to exercise and serious about sticking to it should not sabotage themselves by risking bad weather, cold weather, or extremely hot weather. Some people will take advantage of any excuse that comes their way. Also, not every city in the country encourages bikers. There might not be appropriately wide or safe lanes, or bike trails. This puts bikers at risk of being seriously injured or killed.

Warming up is always critical before any aerobic activity or weight training. You need to literally make your muscles limber and stretched, increase your heart rate, and prepare your body for a longer, more intense work out.

Some people might want to use a treadmill instead of an exercise bike, for whatever reason. But it is also possible to trip and fall on a treadmill, causing serious injury to yourself. People trip over their own feet all of the time, and the chances for this only increases when on a moving floor.

Exercise Bikes Reviews

It's important to find a place in your house where you can place the exercise cycle. Then decide whether you want a upright exercise bike, a semi recumbent exercise bike or a recumbent exercise bike. When you have decided on the type you want, then look at the exercise bike reviews available in bike magazines and the Internet. You can also take the advice of those who are currently using the same as well as personal trainers. Exercise bike reviews are usually rated according to their performance, the functions that they have as well as the type of material used for making the exercise bikes.

Exercise bikes should be comfortable to sit and the seat should be easily adjustable otherwise it can become difficult for people to cycle. If the height of the seat is wrong, it will put un-necessary pressure near the groin area. Hence people will not be able to exercise. For ratings on these kind of features, its essential that review websites be visited as the reviews of the exercise bikes give valuable information to the customer. There are other advantages too. Many a times, the sites on the Internet may offer a special discount on the exercise bikes too. After having read the reviews one can even negotiate for a better price from the sales person.

These and other such advantages can definitely come the customer's way. However it's equally important that the customer check out the exercise bike in a store. Getting a first hand experience of how the exercise bike feels is equally important. Therefore, after you have read the the reviews, go to a retailer and try the few machines you have selected as possibles. It's in your own interest to read the exercise bike reviews because you want to be sure the machine you buy gives you a good workout without injuring any part of your body.

Which Exercise Bike Is Best for You?

If you go into almost any fitness gym in America, you will see a line of exercise bikes, most likely with riders already using them. They have been one of the most popular exercise machines for several years now. Although they seem very simple and easy to use, and they are, they are capable of giving you a very good cardio workout if you use them properly.

Most of the exercise bikes that you see in fitness gyms will probably be the upright kind. However, there are actually two main types or styles of exercise bike in use today. The first is the upright kind that looks most similar to an ordinary bicycle, except that is missing one or both wheels. The second kind of exercise bike is called a recumbent bike, and it can look fairly strange the first time you see it. Rather than sit on an upright seat, you actually lay in the recumbent bike and work the petals with your feet out in front of you.

So when considering an exercise bike for your home fitness workouts, the first choice is whether to get an upright or recumbent bike. Actually, the choice is entirely up to you, and comes down more to which style is most comfortable for you as you exercise. It has been noted though, that those who suffer from chronic back pain may be able to make the most use of a recumbent bike simply because it takes the stress and pressure off their spine as they exercise.

There is actually a third kind of exercise bike although it is not usually thought of in that way. It's called a bike trainer, and it is essentially a stand that you place a real bicycle into in order to lift the rear wheel off the ground and give stability to the bike. There is usually a resistance wheel that makes contact with the rear wheel of the bike and provides the resistance for your workout. If you get a very good model of bike trainer, the stability and ease-of-use will be very good no matter how fast you pedal. One of the advantages of this design is that it lets you use your own bicycle that you may feel very comfortable riding as a virtual exercise machine indoors when you can't use it outdoors. However this solution is not for everyone, even though it is a very inexpensive alternative to exercise bike machines.

Once you have decided on the type or style of exercise bike that you like best, it's time to consider the features of each individual model. Some of the features that are most useful include an interactive heart rate monitor, and a well-designed electronic display.

An interactive heart rate monitor will keep an eye on your pulse rate as you exercise and then adjusts your workout intensity to make sure that you get the most calories burned in each exercise session. This is a real timesaver as it prevents you from having to constantly check your heart rate and make the manual adjustments for resistance on your bike as you go.

The electronic display should be clear and easy to read even when you are peddling fast and at a high intensity level. It should also allow you to make adjustments manually while you are exercising easily and quickly.

The information provided here should help you understand the various kinds of exercise bike equipment that is available and what features are most useful to the average person. And hopefully you can use these suggestions to get the exercise bike that is best for you.

The Price of Exercise Bikes

Before you shop for your new exercise bike, you need to decide your budget and your priorities. For example, if you only have one hundred dollars to spend, but you feel you absolutely need a bike with different terrains and races programmed into the console, you're going to be disappointed. New exercise bikes with all of the bells and whistles will coast you, but when it comes to exercise equipment the old adage, "You get what you pay for" as never been more true. Once you decide how much you're willing to spend, and you make a list of features that you absolutely need, you can compare the two things until you come up with a decent budget that realistically reflects the sort of bike you are looking for.

The price of exercise bikes range considerably, but most of the high-quality ones with extra bells and whistles will run you between three and six hundred dollars. That might seem like a lot of money to spend for a bike, but you are paying for quality, necessary features, and convenience. You can exercise daily without purchasing an expensive gym membership, and the weather will never get in the way of fitness. The initial cost is just an investment in your fitness regimen, and is generally worth the prices. You can find one cheaper than three hundred dollars, but as already mentioned, it might not have any of the features you could want. An exercise bike with all the "bells and whistles" can get as high as one thousand dollars, but often, they have more features than a person reasonably needs.

Use an Exercise Bike For Weight Loss Success!

Using an exercise bike for weight loss can provide you with an excellent cardio workout while easing pressure on your knee and ankle joints. On average, the most successful dieters spend about an hour a day on exercise. Experts believe that switching up your exercise regime produces better results.

There are many reasons why biking should be a part of your fitness routine. Besides building up thigh and calf muscles, biking tones the legs and buttock. Because it supports the body's weight, it reduces pressure and strain on the lower body. Biking encourages flexibility and range of motion and improves cardiovascular fitness.

You can achieve the same benefits whether you are using a traditional upright bike or an exercise bike for weight loss. Performing this activity inside does have its advantages. Biking indoors removes the threat of weather, lousy drivers, and angry dogs. It allows you the opportunity to read or watch television while you burn calories.

Recumbent bikes have become very popular for indoor use. They usually have wider, more comfortable seats, and many of the more expensive models can be easily folded away for storage. Most bikes have resistance settings that allow you to control the intensity of your workout and some of the more expensive ones have digital displays, which can be programmed to show heart rate, calories burned, or competitive workout routines.

A simple routine of three times a week for 20-30 minutes is recommended for cardiovascular benefit, but don't forget to add on a brief warm up and cooling down period as well. A 30 minute workout burns somewhere between 100-300 calories, depending on your body weight, speed, and resistance. So consider using an exercise bike for weight loss. It will be a rewarding addition to your fitness routine.

Exercise Bikes and Their Benefits

The recumbent exercise bike has been around for a long time, and comes in a great variety of forms and models. These stationary exercise and fitness bikes allow users to recline while exercising, thus reducing strain on the back and greatly improving endurance.

First and foremost, the reclined position of recumbent exercise and fitness bikes offers users many benefits. Being unable to sit upright while using a recumbent exercise bike helps prevent the strains in the lower back area. Also, when reclined in the seat, your legs are at the same level as your heart, improving the blood flow to and from your legs. This helps improve your endurance levels while exercising.

Other health benefits that can be gained through exercising on a recumbent bike include burning excess body fat and strengthening the leg muscles. Burning body fat is a process that aids in the formation of muscle mass, thus this will speed up the strengthening of your muscles. Not only do you gain endurance through exercising on a recumbent bike, you lose excess weight as well.

There are many different models of recumbent bike available in the market today. Your choice will largely be based on your budget, however. The Stex 8020R recumbent exercise bike is one the best exercise bikes that money can buy. The bike checks your heart rate and measures your body fat as you exercise, helping to create a more personalized workout for you. The bike's computer comes pre-programmed with thirteen exercise routines as well as twenty-five different levels of resistance. This model of bike is very expensive, however, and you may wish to consider a cheaper alternative.

The Star Trac 4410HR recumbent exercise bike costs approximately a thousand dollars less than a Stex 8020R recumbent exercise bike. It has fifteen different levels of resistance and four pre-programmed exercise routines. The Schwinn 213 recumbent exercise bike incorporates sixteen levels of resistance and eleven exercise routines. A computer screen is also included that displays your progress in terms of speed, pulse, and number of calories burned during each workout.

For those who have never used a recumbent exercise bike before, the Phoenix Magnetic bike is a good choice. Although this model of exercise and fitness bike only offers eight levels of resistance, the workout you will get from this bike is very similar to those from other more expensive bikes. This will help you determine whether or not workouts using a recumbent exercise bike are effective for you. You will also avoid spending a large amount only to find that it is not suitable for you.

All in all, recumbent exercise and fitness bikes offer a great number of health benefits, not the least of which are improved cardiovascular flow and increase endurance levels. Recumbent exercise bikes come in many different models and types to suit all tastes and budgets. If you have yet to try a recumbent exercise and fitness bike, you should do so, as you may find that it suits your workout regimen well.

Interactive Exercise Bikes

Incorporating the latest technology, interactive exercise bikes are specially designed for safety and comfort and are easily adaptable to all age groups. The main point of an interactive exercise bike is to bring an element of science or entertainment to the process of working out. Each workout accelerates the usage of several muscle groups. Apart from the common features of regular exercise bikes, interactive bikes are loaded with numerous interactive workout programs and have special sensors that monitor heart rates. An LCD display will set the workout time and monitor heart performance, fitness level and the amount of calories burned. The speed and resistance of the machine can be controlled, and hand sensors and telemetry chest straps are added features.

Some interactive exercise bikes include interactive video games that add some excitement to a mundane exercise routine. Body movements using handgrips or pedaling speed control every action on the screen. How to Find the Best Exercise Bike for You

Exercise bikes have been some of the most popular fitness machines for many years, found in many gyms and homes alike. The health benefits of riding a bike are well-known, and no doubt this has contributed to the popularity of the exercise bike as well. But before you buy an exercise bike for your home workouts, there are a few things that you should know in order to make the right decision.

First of all, exercise bikes come in two different varieties. The first is what you are probably most familiar with, as it resembles a normal bicycle with the wheels removed. The second type is called a recumbent bike, and rather than sit on it as you would a normal bicycle, you actually said in it instead. Some are not sure which type of exercise bike would be best for them, but generally speaking, either one will do a fine job of giving you a cardio workout at home. The biggest advantage of the recumbent exercise bike is that it could be a more comfortable fit for those who have back problems.

Other than that, it's probably best to visit a local sporting goods store and try out she type of exercise bike to see which style works best for you. Is the upright bike more comfortable for you, or the recumbent bike? The answer to that question is entirely up to you and your preference.

Now that you have settled on whether your exercise bike will be either upright or recumbent, it's time to start looking for the most important features to buy. Perhaps one of the single most important considerations is whether an exercise bike can be adjusted to fit you comfortably. Believe it or not, there are models on the market that fit the average person very well, but do not adjust well to someone who does not fall in that average category. So make sure that the exercise bike you buy has plenty of adjustment room for you.

Also be sure to actually test drive any exercise bike that you are serious about purchasing in person before you actually buy it. This is the best course to take with many consumer items, and exercise bikes are no exception. There are wide differences in exercise bike designs, and that means what fits one person very easily and well, may not work at all for someone else, and the only way you will know that a model will work for you for sure, is to actually use it yourself and give it a test drive.

While you test it out, ask yourself if you feel comfortable using it. Does the see fit you well? If not, can you replace it out with a different one until you find one that will work well for you? Can you read the display comfortably? Does it give you all the information that you would like to have while you are exercising? How solid and stable does the bike feel? Does it seem to run smoothly, and quietly?

It's not a bad idea to try out several exercise bike models, and get your own personal impressions from using them. After collecting all that information, you can decide whether to purchase it locally, or perhaps save money by simply ordering it online. But by that time he will have plenty of information that will help you find the best exercise bike for you.

Exercise Bikes

Deciding on an exercise activity to do at home and having the discipline to stick with it can be very challenging. This is because there is a wide selection of exercise activities and exercise equipment that you can choose from, and the distractions at home can make it very difficult to do the exercise regularly. Given this, picking out an activity and the right equipment should involve choosing something that is effective, safe and something you see yourself doing in the long term. For most people, the exercise and equipment of choice are walking and using a treadmill. However, for people who may want a more “exciting” workout at home, biking and exercise bikes are the activity and equipment of choice.

Long-term sustainability

Using an exercise bike can provide a unique way to exercise because this machine allows you to simulate various biking routines that require different levels of performance. In addition to this, some exercise bikes can even be plugged into a television that can allow you to interactively pedal through simulated courses. All these make the exercise fun and eliminate the boredom that comes with doing the same exercise over and over again.

Effectiveness

Studies have shown that people burn about 550 calories when they use exercise bikes, which can be considered small compared to more strenuous activities. However, given that using an exercise bike is more fun than other activities, you can expect that people would most likely spend more time using them than they would other equipment. As a result of this, you get to burn more calories using the exercise bike since you would end up using it longer and more regularly.

Safety

Exercise bikes also provide a safe way to exercise since the likelihood of falling off them is very small as compared to other equipment. Using exercise bikes also do not stress your body that much since your joints would not be too stressed during the exercise.

Using an exercise bike can be a fun, effective and safe way to sustain an exercise program in your home. This is because doing so eliminates the boredom that comes with doing the same exercise regularly and it can also ensure that you will stick to your routine.
